What happens at a physical?
A physical is a routine doctor’s visit in which a provider will evaluate your overall health in a few different ways. It’s also called a wellness exam. In this appointment, the doctor will check vital signs, do a physical examination including things like listening to your heart and lungs, check reflexes and feel the abdomen for any abnormalities. You may have to get blood drawn to run tests for things like cholesterol, blood sugar or vitamin deficiencies. Depending on your age and gender, your doctor may also recommend future screenings like mammograms or colonoscopies. They’ll also check-in with you about any medications you take, review your medical history and provide any immunizations you might need. This is also a great opportunity to talk to your doctor if you’ve been experiencing any bothersome or unexplained symptoms since your last visit.
